Meet Richard
Richard Henry is a lifelong Tuscaloosa resident, a small business owner, and a candidate for Tuscaloosa City Council in District 3.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in building science, Richard went into property management in 2008. He started out managing his own properties and quickly saw where the system fell short. Rather than accept that, he built a company to do the job better. That experience led to years of hands-on work in property management, redevelopment, and bringing neglected properties back into use.
In Tuscaloosa, Richard has worked on rehabilitating older multi-family housing and redeveloping vacant commercial spaces. He understands how housing, infrastructure, and public safety all connect at the neighborhood level, and how city decisions can either strengthen or strain a community.
Richard has remained involved in the civic life of the city by attending council and zoning meetings and working with local organizations. He believes District 3 should receive its fair share of city projects and resources, and that public safety must remain a priority for every neighborhood.
He is running for City Council to bring practical experience to City Hall, advocate for responsible growth, keep neighborhoods safe, and make sure District 3 is not overlooked when decisions are made.
Richard lives in Tuscaloosa with his wife, Jana, and their children, Sally and Thomas. Richard is a graduate of Tuscaloosa City Schools, and his children currently attend Tuscaloosa City Schools.
